“These paintings were made as I began teaching life drawing for the first time. Prior to this series I had been only painting objects and still life. These were an attempt to paint the head and the figure as if it were an object. Using myself as the subject, or a version of myself. I grew a mustache to differentiate myself from the students and got a haircut so these became studies of this type of character.”
